AI packshot app: consistent product images for an online shop
A Swiss retail company wanted to standardise the product images in its online shop: white background, consistent format, small files. AWEO developed its own app for this, which checks every image and only uses AI where it is really needed.

The images came from different suppliers: some already cut out, some with coloured or busy backgrounds, in different sizes. The shop required a consistent format with a white background and a fixed maximum file size. External platforms also needed a version without shadow.
Editing every image by hand would have been time-consuming. Sending all images to an AI across the board would have been too, and unnecessary for many of them.
The solution: three phases instead of “everything through the AI”

Working copies
The app creates reduced copies of all images. They serve as previews and as the basis for further editing.

Review and selection
Every image is automatically analysed and classified: already fits, only needs adjusting or needs AI editing at the appropriate quality level. The selection can be overridden per image, and a cost estimate runs alongside.

Processing
The images are edited according to the selection and saved with identical file names, once with and once without shadow. The original sits next to each result for checking.

Difficult cases
Difficult images are reworked individually and checked in a before-and-after comparison.
Result
- A consistent image collection for the shop and external platforms
- AI only where it was needed: a large share of the images was automatically recognised as fitting
- Files in the required format and size, with the original file names
- Full cost control thanks to an estimate before the start and a report after the run
Details that matter in everyday use
The app does not artificially enlarge images. If an original is smaller than the target format, the remaining area is filled with white. That way no blurry images are created.
The app chooses the file format based on the image content: photos are saved so that they stay small, images with transparency without any loss of quality. Runs can be interrupted and resumed, and images that are already done are skipped.
